Finally a trip to the photographer

Although Vivien is 9 weeks old, we finally got her newborn pics taken. We also decided to take some family pics, and some pics of Val Dean at the time. (no need making two or three trips to the photographer, these things stress me out like no other). We had them taken at Pretty Pictures in American Fork. www.prettypicturesinutah.com
So here are a few pics.

Those pictures are so precious. I love the one of Viven in the flower hat and the one of Val Dean with the airplane. That is too bad about the sickenesses your kids have. That sounds aweful. I hate this time of year. It seems like my kids are always sick and then I get stuck in my house. Well, I hope they are better. We need to get together soon.

You're so lucky you got her to smile. Val Dean looks so old in that second color pic! You and Val look good too.

Sooooo CUTE!!! Vivien's outfit in the family pictures is adorable - what a cutie! I never noticed before that little Val Dean had dimples - I wish one of my girls would have inherited their Daddy's dimples!

Hi ,Im Angie, your family is beautifull!I have never seen another child with SED before,so Im so happy you found my blog.Sounds like hes been doing great,as far as the C-spine thing goes,Aydens is stable to the point where he doesnt need surgery for that, but we are followed by a nerosergeon in buffalo & cincinnati. He can never play contact sports(obviousley)& he gets yearly MRIs too make shure his spine is stable. His c-spine issues are kinda like a chiari malformation, but hes not quite there yet & hopefully will never be.How tall is your little guy?if you dont mind me asking.Aydens SED diagnoses was questioned because he soo small,so our hospital sent all of Aydens info to johns hokins & there top team went over everything & it came back that he has a severe form of it,severe meaning his max height will only be 3 feet.Hes 25 in tall now & 19 lbs,hes been 25 in since he was two.Surgery is a very scary thing but Aydens had 16 so far & hes always done great, good luck to Val Dean & anymore questions are welcome.Aydens noticing the size difference now ,but hes 5 & hes swears he knows everything!Weve had lots of conversations about it already but hes still to young to fully get it.He has gotten upset a few times,on his 5 th b-day he said "mom, does my face look different?" & I told him "yea you look older" & he looked in the mirror & started crying, saying" I look the same!" & I didnt get it untill he said"why does Evan (his cousin) get bigger & I stay the same!".So its getting tougher to explain & if you say"God makes everyone different"he gets mad he doenst want to be different, hes still to young to be ok with it,ya know?........Angie

We go to Cincinnati because they have a world renowned ENT doc there,Dr.Robin Cotton & he can do things no one else can.He reconstructed Aydens airway with rib cartalidge,if we had stayed in buffalo Ayden would have his trach the rest of his life. They also have a famous nerosergeon there Dr.Mangano & he ordered spinal cord monitoring during the reconstruction, because his head would be hyperextented for a long period,in buffalo they woudnt have done that either & with his narrow c-spine,I think its better to be more cautious.Does your son or any of the other SED kiddos have huge tummys?I ask because Ayden is always so big & I just wonder if thats how other SED body shapes are?He had a lot of GI issues up untill age 3 when we found cincinnatis aerodigestive clinic & they saved his life.Ayden had a G-T & he always retched with formula & they put him on a pureed food diet through his GT & he has never gotten sick again after that.Ayden personality is great & he too gets fustrated when he cant do something other kids can, climb to the top of a jungle gym & jump off!run as fast as them, carry something heavy, reach the fridge, ect.,But when it comes to video games or the computer its his cousins comming to Ayden for help! His little sister has been taller than him since 7 mo. old ,she 1 1/2 now & they have a love /hate relationship!Shes always taking his glasses off & running away with them, shes broken 3 pairs already!& his toys & he gets soo mad because he too little to stop her! They love each other though,Aydens even gotten her to open doors for him that I want closed ,so hes using her height to his advantage! They love wrestling but Im always afraid Avas going to hurt his neck.I just think Im so lucky to have Ayden, hes overcome so much & I often think why me?Why did I get so lucky,to have this little boy,hes so precious,Im so lucky hes mine. What is wrong with Val Deans spine, that you have to have the surgery? Will he need a hailo after?Talk to you soon,Angie

Hello!Thank you for the tummy info,Im thinking thats jut his body shape, his GI issues were a side effect from having nissen fundoplication(stomach is wrapped around the esophagus)to stop acid reflux,So I often wondered if the size was due to that or not,but his belly had gone down a lot from age 2 & 3 to now.His eyes are -5 & hes been wereing glasses since age 2.We never had any problems getting him to were them,we figured he just knew he could see better with them, but my husband & I both were glasses ,so that could have something to do with it too.I cant even imagine how scary that must have been for you & your husband,Val Deans neck, even though were told we dont need to take extra precautions with Ayden, thats always one of my fears. When Ayden was an infant ,up to age two I did talk to a local father with SED & he had a little girl,I havent talked to him in a while & my main focus of our converations was always about Aydens retching & trach/airway stuff.,But I do know his daughter had a trach,GT & & once her trach came out at age 3 she had her neck fused together & had to were a hailo for 6 mo. after. He did say the surgery was a sucess & so worth it for them because they didnt have to worry about her falling off her bike & becoming paralized.Aydens spine is completely straight & Im so thankfull for that & if were lucky about anything its his size, his spine is least likely to curve being so small & the airway surg. he had other kids need it redone by age 12 because it doesnt grow with there body, but aydens not going to get much bigger & he just wouldnt be him if he were tall!I think he going to inspire lots of people as he gets older, hes so special & your little Val Dean is too.I showed Ayden his picture & the close up of his face he said (aww, mom thats the cutest pic ever, look at his mowhawk!)it was funny.Looking at the pic of Val Dean & the other boy on the trucks was like looking at Ayden & his cousin in pics, you never notice the dif, untill you see him next to an average size kid, allthough our kiddos are way cuter!!(jusk kidding, every mom thinks that!)The older SED kids are there spines curved?? O and just a little tip,if your looking for stools for around you house, puppy stairs work great, regular step stools the step up is too high!We have them all over!...Angie

O Gosh, dont do the acid reflux surgery(nissen fundoplication),if you can get away with medicating,do that first, the retching side effects from that surg. almost killed Ayden,he had dry heaves up to 20x per day for 3 years & eventualy his stomach hirneated into his chesst all because of the stupid nissen. In our hospital a trach & GT/Nissen go hand in hand,I wish I knew then what I know now,but Cincinnati saved him & he no longer retches. He grew up untill age 2,since not so much.........Angie
